Capital Hill in Seattle

June 30th, 2007 Guide Book: Seattle City Walks by Laura Karlinsey

Our hike began in Volunteer Park. We parked outside the Volunteer Park Conservatory. Their orchid and cactii collections were incredible. A statue of William Henry Seward stands in front of the conservatory. He arranged the purchase of Alaska from Russia 1867. It was known as "Seward's Folly". Seattle made considerable money trading with Alaska and named Seward park after him.
