The Forbes Weekend Party - Libby, Montana - 2011

August 19, 2011 - Thursday

We met Paula and Lois at Paula's house at 11:00AM. We drove to the Spokane KOA and met Kathie and Jim, Gail and Jay. Chris and Bob Foster joined us later for dinner. The BLT dip was a hit. The prosicutto and cantelope was good too, but it was also the favorite of the hornets. Several of the campers at the park had souped up old cars that they would frequently drive through the grounds. Lois helped me make a smore with Keebler cookies instead of Graham crackers and a big Reeses piece instead of Hersey bar. Can you say Sugar Buzzzzzz.

We stopped at the Safeway in Moses Lake for some vittles. Here we are at our picnic at the I90 rest stop just east of Moses Lake.

August 20, 2011 - Friday

Up and showered and ready to go. Jay found his H2O door key was broken, so he called a locksmith. After about 30 minutes Jim tried his key in the door and it worked. The locksmith hadn't arrived after an 1.5 hours so we left. New keys were purchesed at an RV shop just across I90. We traveled to Libby via hwy 56. More scenic that hwy 2and 2 was being oiled and regraveled near Bonners ferry. Reached the Forbes about 1:30PM. Scott and Steve were down at the pond. Sherrie gave us the house tour. Bob barbequed burgers and brawts for dinner. The kitchen island was always brimmed with good food and snackes ie. heavenly brownies.

Light Up The Night - The Libby Burnouts

The city cordons off about 6 blocks. Mustle cars make the loop lighting up their tires over and over. We had tire dust and smoke all over us. It lasts from about 6:00PM to 11:30PM. Scott would pretend to take their photos so they would light them up right in front of us. Scott said there were about 400 cars registered.

Alpine Lake Hike - Leigh Lake

After Sherrie made waffles to go along with the eggs and sausage, fruit, coffee cake and more for breakfast we filled our canteens and grabbed some bear spray. We headed for a hike to Leigh Lake in the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness. The trail head was only about 40 minutes from the house. The last few miles were rugged and the road was tre-dusty. My windshield was so covered with dust none of the passangers could be seen from the outside. Most of the party reached the lake. Some stopped at the falls. The first group to the lake was treated to a glacier "calving" The sound was like a sonic boom and the ice hitting the water created a small sunami. Most fished from the bank, but Jay wade into the lake up to his chest in places. he hiked out with wet boots and socks. A great party insued back at the trail head.
